LPL T20: Unearthing New Sri Lankan Talent
Even though the big names were missing from the My 11 circle LPL T20, it proved that they have good cricketing blood nonetheless. The League started with – Colombo Kings v Kandy Tuskers – a super-over finish, after 200+ runs scored from both the sides. And even the last league match between Dambulla Hawks v Colombo Kings had 200+runs.
Most importantly, the Lanka Premier League helped in unearthing the gems of Srilankan cricket.
Nuwan Thushara
Also known as Malinga junior ( Podi Mali) showed his metal during the death overs. He is in his mid-twenties and now is the right time to get him to the Srilanka T20I squad.
Vijayakanth Viyaskanth
Vijaykanth has to be the most promising youngster of the LPL T20. Needless to say, he is the first Jaffna-born cricketer to appear in an internationally televised game. The 19 years old right-arm leg spinner has the form Srilankan skipper’s wicket in his bag, apart from many others. Just a few days after he played his first match, his performance was viral on YouTube. He was as popular as other Sri Lankan cricket overnight.
Even Thikshila de Silva showed his all-round performance with his limited opportunities. We hope that he’ll get more opportunities next season, to prove his consistency at this stage.
Let’s Win Together
Now we are in the semifinals. Internationals all-rounders like Andre Russell, Shoaib Malik, and Samit Patel will be in action. As far as bowling is concerned, let’s hope that Qais Ahmad and Mohammad Amir use their international experience, and return the commendable figures. On top of that, all four units have the talented International Srilankan players as well.
Explosive opening batsman DhanushkaGunathilake has already scored 462 runs in 8 matches to top the batting list. Undoubtedly, he’ll look to touch the 500-mark. On the other end, WaniduHasaranga has 13 scalps to top the bowling list, with a mind-blowing economy of 5.48.
